You’ve been here. You’ve been here before, and you find yourself here again.

As the audience members sit and blend in among the crowd, it’s as if you didn’t just enter the chaotic yet somber village of Waka Waka–it’s as if you’ve always been there and everyone already knows you. Actors might pull a chair and ask, with great enthusiasm, if your commute to the venue was comfortable. Others might stand next to you and ask you for your political support. You don’t know the story yet and you don’t know the background of the character, but sitting there as they shake your hand can make you feel like you already know who you’ll be voting for.

In LIMBO, there is no escape. When the twists and turns of life become intertwined with the tragedies that always inevitably escape from the complications of human relationships, it’s easy to circle back to where you started without even knowing you took such big strides. In OOP's LIMBO, you start with chaos, and that will be the same thing echoing in your head as you step outside the venue after the play.

If you’re looking for the next play to catch this weekend, below is a list of 5 reasons why it should be LIMBO.

1. It’s Set On A Thrust Stage

The story of LIMBO is set on a thrust stage, wherein the stage is situated right smack in the middle of the audience members that are sitting on three sides. The LIMBO’s stage played a significant role in immersing the audience members and transforming them from detached watchers, to almost like background characters, who the actors will sometimes even interact with in the beginning before the story unfolds.

The story of LIMBO allows an intimate experience for the audience, which makes all the sense as you sit back and watch as the story unfolds.

2. You’ve Seen The Characters Before

Noisy boys, kind older brothers, loving grandparents– the characters of LIMBO are people you have seen before. They have probably shared somewhat similar stories, which makes LIMBO such an easy play to understand and relate to– it didn’t need such complex narratives to hook the audiences. Instead, LIMBO showed a reflection of the real world we are living in, which was executed perfectly and made a more effective hook than any other outlandish plot.

3. You Know The Village Of Waka Waka

Similar to the familiar characters, the village of Waka Waka also screams home. A true reflection of the streets we pass through on a daily basis, they carefully crafted the stage design to depict any common street you can see here in Metro Manila. A big sign of a run-down but somehow still operating sari-sari store, wooden shipping boxes used as chairs, and political posters plastered on every deteriorating wall. The village of Waka Waka is a familiar one, and, again, is a very essential element that surely captivated the audience.

4. Promising Young Talents Weaved The Story

Make-up and hair colors may have been used to transform each actor into the physical appearance of their characters, but behind the masks, talented young people clearly shine through. Booming voices, emotional tirades perfectly executed, tears, laughter, love, and longing– the promising young talents weave a story before the audience and will leave audiences in awe.

5. The Story Extends Outside The Theatre

The lights may close, the actors may break characters, but the story of LIMBO will leave audiences in– limbo. The story does end, but it really does not. As the story of LIMBO reflects something so true in our daily lives, stepping outside the theater does not really end the story of LIMBO. For some, it can be an eye-opener. For others, a reminder. For the creatives behind LIMBO, they want the play to do at least a little of something for the people who inspired the play. If you’re looking for a play that will tug at your heartstrings, LIMBO should definitely be on your list.
